Although actress and drama therapist Sara Sincell lives in far-away Los Angeles, that fact is not stopping her from traveling east this weekend to her hometown to take part in Mountain Lake Park’s Victorian Chautauqua. Sincell will be portraying Harriet Quimby, a ground-breaking young woman who among many other accomplishments was the first female aviator to cross the English Channel flying her own plane.

Admission and parking are free! This is made possible through grants, nonprofit funding, business sponsorships, and private donations. It is with great pleasure that we thank these entities for their generosity, and more importantly for their kind endorsement of The Victorian Chautauqua.

In a long-standing Chautauqua tradition, Sean and Debi Beachy will lead a hymn sing much like the original founders of Mountain Lake Park would have expected. Two performances on Sunday, July 10th will allow everyone a chance to participate without missing other programming.

The Victorian Chautauqua food market offers an array of delicious treats and local favorites to keep your engine running all day long. Stop by between performances or grab something to go as the day comes to a close.

Victorian Chautauqua attendees will be able to stay connected throughout the weekend and enjoy the opportunity to share their fun on social media platforms with posts and live media with free Wi-Fi powered by NeuBeam.

The entire children's program at the 2022 Victorian Chautauqua has been graciously funded by Samantha Funding The Arts. The nonprofit is led by June and Charlie McClosky in memory of their daughter Samantha who was passionate about the arts. Over time, countless arts programs in the community and beyond have been made possible through the organization's philanthropic work.

A special dedication ceremony will take place on Sunday, July 10 at 4:00 PM in Mountain Lake Park. The program will gather representatives from across the state to recognize Julia Walker Ruhl for her important contributions to the women’s movement.

What do you get when you cross the Victorian era with music technology? The TeenPunk Silent Disco! This free summer kick-off event is exclusively catered to teens and sponsored by John Rose at Edward Jones.

A couple devoted to the past through fashion and photography will make their mark on the 2022 Victorian Chautauqua. Chris Jones and Courtney Cauthon will offer sittings to capture their subjects in a photographic technique that was perfected during the Civil War.

A long tradition of Chautauqua programming centers on cultural enrichment. Programs are assembled from an array of talented people who bring theatrical performance, music, and historical narratives to the stage. One of The Victorian Chautauqua’s goals is to inspire and nurture creativity by providing a place where the fruits of that extraordinary work can be showcased.

Ruhl cottage, was a father’s gift to his beloved daughter, Julia, at a cost of $3000. Being a West Virginia resident, and unlike women residing in Maryland, she was able to be a property owner in Mountain Lake Park. Her independence and strong will fed her ultimate notoriety in the Suffrage movement. This powerful woman will be portrayed by Sallie Wooddell Stuart who’s family restored the home to its Victorian opulence.

Intriguing and dynamic could describe Harriet Quimby. She was an actress, model, magazine writer, screenwriter, and the first woman to ever cross the English Channel. Although she lost her life at an early age, her legacy lives on through Sara Sincell, who will be portraying this celebrated personality on the Victorian Chautauqua stage on Sunday, July 10th.

The Victorian Chautauqua weekend is free to all, thanks to generous support from grants, business sponsorships, and individuals. By attending this year’s kick-off dinner, you can play an important role in funding the weekend festivities while enjoying the company of others who are passionate about preserving the history of Mountain Lake Park.

To commemorate the 150th Anniversary of Garrett County, Maryland, families will be able to collect a complimentary coin featuring Mountain Lake Park and the Victorian Chautauqua seal on the back. A special display will be at the festival highlighting the County’s history.

The Victorian Chautauqua is more than a festival. It’s a county-wide event that celebrates a long tradition of educational and cultural programming that first put Mountain Lake Park on the map over a century ago. The Bright Siders is a unique musical collaboration between Nashville-based Americana songwriter Kristin Andreassen and Brooklyn-based child psychiatrist Kari Groff, MD. Together, they create music with the purpose of helping children connect to their emotions.
